Revealing Romanian Moths

Mike Southall shares photos of more of the moths seen on the trip described by Graeme Davis.

My moth highlights in Romania were species that are either rare migrants or have restricted or extinct UK populations (or both). These include:

  • Bright Wave
  • Burren Green
  • Butterbur
  • Clay Fan-foot
  • Goat Moth
  • Guernsey Underwing
  • Marsh Dagger
  • Pale Oak Beauty
  • Rose Plume
  • Scarce Black Arches
  • Spotted Sulphur
  • Sussex Emerald

 

Not a moth and something like a dragonfly, this owlfly (Libelloides macaronius) actually belongs to the Ascalaphidae family.

 

I also trapped four species of Clearwing moths, including Dusky Clearwing, and enjoyed seeing some day-flying moths and other insects during our butterfly searches.
